Adverse Weather Plan
The winter weather in Scotland is unpredictable. This page explains the school's approach to adverse weather.
The general principle is that Cedars School will always be open for 9.00 a.m. until 3.20 p.m. regardless of the weather, except where direct advice to schools has been issued by the appropriate authorities. Normal classes may not run if numbers are severely reduced but we will keep meaningful activities going where possible especially for older children.
Where a prolonged period of severe weather is experienced parents and pupils should regularly check our web site and email for information.
The decision about bringing children to and from school rests with the parents. If a parent asks to take a child home because of weather conditions they will be given permission to so do. Parents should always make safety their priority in deciding whether to travel.
In the event of adverse weather, we ask parents to communicate with the school office rather than telephoning or texting your children directly. This ensures that we know who is being picked up and prevents any confusion spreading within the school
School Bus in Adverse Weather
If weather conditions are treacherous in the morning the bus will not run. The driver will inform parents.
If the bus does not run in the morning it will not run in the afternoon. Parents may decide to bring children to school themselves but will then be responsible for collecting them.
In the event that children have arrived at school by bus and conditions are such that it is impossible for the bus to run in the afternoon parents will be informed and children will be kept safely in school until they can be collected.
The bus will never leave early from school as it is too difficult to ensure that all children will be met and a schedule kept.
