We were using the empty number to help us add numbers today.
Everyone was split into talk partners and they had to discuss how to work out the answer to a given sum using an empty number line. It was interesting to see how the children discussed the task and also how they chose to record their findings. Some used paper and pencil, others used iPads and some were happy to visualise their working in their heads. This is an important thing for children to become aware of that they prefer different recording methods.
