Community involvement day (CID)

6/22/2016

Today was our inaugural community involvement day and it could not have gone better! Everyone in P7 - S5 chose one of three groups to participate in,  giving them chance to serve or help the local and wider community. The groups were:

Bring a Gift Group: Pupils made bouquets and cookies to take to residents at Kincaid House. In the afternoon, they tookthem to the residents, spent time chatting with them, and sangsome of our favourite Scottish songs. All the pupils were outstanding ambassadors for the school, and brought a tear to many eyes with their happy conversation and gifts. We were very fortunate to have Zoe Swan (Katie's mum!), helping us. Zoe is a professional florist, and has many strings to her bow! We could not have made all 30 bouquets without her!

Raising Awareness Group: Pupils spent the morning with Ruth Donaldson from Christian Solidarity Worldwide. Ruth spoke at our recent Spring Concert, and has lots of ideas for encouraging young people to look at ways of helping those who are oppressed for their beliefs.

Taking Action Group: Pupils took part in a sponsored walk around the Greenock Cut, donating proceeds to Christian Solidarity worldwide.

This has been an excellent day, full of fun, and has given pupils a superb opportunity to think of others and be outward looking.

We will do this again!
