Everyone made progress this week which was great to see.
We were partitioning numbers today. Some children were focusing on tens and units, some on hundreds, tens and units, others on thousands, hundreds, tens and units and some even managed tens of thousands too. Partitioning will form part of the homework each week this term as it is a vital skill for children to know. Could I please encourage you to get your child to read the number before partitioning it. Many thanks. We are thoroughly enjoying the new playground. There are so many new places and having the hoops are great! We were talking about vocabulary today and we were introduced to the word synonym. We discussed lots of examples and everyone is beginning to grasp the idea of what a synonym is. Yesterday we had a visit from Miss Rukin and P5/6 who came to sing a song to us in Mandarin as part of their topic on China. P3/4 were quite amazed at what they heard! We had our first handball session at Fun World today. Shirley explained the game and then gave opportunity to practise using the ball. We will be developing skills over the sessions until we are able to play a short game. We were looking at settings today during our language time. We all created a good opening to a story set in our own bedroom. There is going to be a mixture of actual facts and imagination in the writing. We tried to make the sentences interesting and shared our ideas with the class. We will be using this to form the basis of more language work and also art work next week. Everyone concentrated really well. We started using the taptyping app today. We are going to be using the app on a regular basis to help improve our typing skills. We were trying to use more than just one or two fingers and to use each hand for the correct side. We were looking at place value today. We recapped on the partitioning strategy and used it with tens and units before moving on to hundreds and thousands. Some of the class began working with tens of thousands as well. We began our topic on Egypt today. In groups everyone made a list of suggestions as to what they would like to learn during the topic. There were some super suggestions ranging from mummification to pyramids and the food they ate. |
