S3 historians are enjoying their work on the Atlantic Slavery. Today, they are giving speeches defending or accusing Scotland of direct involvement in the Slave trade.

Toby spoke as Adam Smith- enlightened thinker and vocal opponent of the trade and of Scotland's involvement in it.

Ruaraidh -speaking as Robert McNair, a Glaswegian merchant- defended Scotland's merchants, arguing that they merely used a system already in place- and were not the ones capturing slaves or working them on plantations.

Zander imagined what Abraham Lyle, of Tate and Lyle, would have said in defence of his company's involvement with the slave trade.

Chloe, speaking as Richard Oswald, also defended Scotland and her rich merchants who made their money through the trade.

Cameron imagined how Sir James Stirling would have argued that Scotland were not involved in the Atlantic Slave Trade.
